Edelen Love | Nursery Project #2

NICU-mom-of-twins

My husband Shawn and I were blessed to be the second family taken under the wing of The Nursery Project...

On Mother’s Day 2017 we found out we were pregnant! Then on July 5, 2017 we had our first ultrasound and were shocked to hear the news that we were expecting twins!! We were overwhelmed, nervous, excited, and so thankful to be blessed in such a special way! And as if it wasn’t already exciting enough we chose to be surprised by their sexes! Now being pregnant is hard enough on your body but this time I was chasing around our 1 year old and hadn’t had a lot of time to dedicate to the nursery yet. We found two matching cribs and Shawn had assembled them in the room... but that was about it.

On Monday November 6, 2017 we went in for our routine 30 week ultrasound. It was then that we learned Baby A no longer had a heartbeat... but Baby B still appeared healthy. We found ourselves in this strange place of unimaginable grief and devastation over the loss of a child, all while still feeling Baby B kicking and growing. We had not even begun to think about taking a crib down and really hadn’t even wrapped our minds around the fact that we would now only be bringing one baby home. It was only 6 days later that I went into labor and despite my doctors and nurses best efforts, it could not be stopped and I delivered 2 boys in the early hours of Sunday November 12th.

Now we found ourselves with an 18 month old (Hayes) and a 3lb 7oz baby in the NICU (Crosby), all while still trying to figure out how to grieve the loss of our angel, Palmer. Decorating a nursery was the last thing on my mind.

Enter Barb : )

We had already received a donation from a close family friend to help finish the nursery. Barb came to us and offered to take over the entire project as long as we promised not to peek in the room until they were finished. Now... we have a village that I cannot even begin to explain to you. Hundreds... yes, you read that right... hundreds of our friends, family, and even people we did not know came together to LOVE. US. WELL! And that they did. They lifted us when we could not lift ourselves. (I get cold chills just thinking about how amazing they all are.) They brought us meals, donated countless hours in the nursery, and, most importantly, they PRAYED. And they prayed hard. God’s grace came down on us in a way I had never experienced. It was/is a time in my life I will never forget for so many reasons.

God always shows up but sometimes He shows off.
— Alli Edelen (Crosby's Mommy)

Well He is showing off in our absolutely gorgeous, full of love, full of life, nursery. Our favorite part is a shelf in the room that honors Palmer. They captured his sweet little life in the most perfect way. They allowed us to spend time with Hayes and visit Crosby daily. Crosby spent 52 days in the NICU and finally came home on Tuesday January 2, 2018. Bringing him home to such a wonderful space made the homecoming that much sweeter. Walking into his nursery everyday fills us with such love and warmth. We cannot even begin to formulate a “thank you” that is worthy, but believe me... we are trying : )

Knowing that our story further inspired these wonderful women to create The Nursery Project is both humbling and exiting. We cannot wait to see the countless families that will be enveloped by God’s love through this ministry. THANK YOU to all who have been and will be involved in supporting The Nursery Project
